Dale William Henderson

Dale William Henderson, 80, Marion, passed away in his home at 2:37 p.m. on Monday, January 15, 2018. He was born in Muskegon, Michigan, on April 14, 1937, to the late Arthur and Evelyn (Vine) Henderson.

After Dale graduated from high school, he enlisted in the Air Force and proudly served his country from 1957-1959. He met Vonda Hardacre and knew this was the lady with whom he would spend the rest of his life. They married on June 1, 1960, and shared 57 years together. He loved his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids immensely!

Dale was a Tier Driver at General Motors and retired on January 1, 1995. Throughout his life, Dale always had a natural desire to serve. The list of activities and service in his community is extensive and includes the following: Member of VFW Post 2689, American Legion Post 138, Masonic Lodge #583, and LaFontaine Lodge #295 (1977-present); substitute and sports bus driver for Oak Hill (’70s and ’80s)—the kids called him “Daredevil Dale”; Little League Coach (’70s and ’80s); Cub and Boy Scout Leader (1972-79) and Boy Scout bus driver on trips to Appalachian Trail and Manitoba, Canada; Civil Defense (’70s and early ’80s); Emergency Management Association (1995-2000); and Grant County Sheriff Reserve Deputy (Dec. 2000-Aug. 2009). His accomplishments in life are many, but his greatest accomplishment and service was to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He served Him faithfully and was a member of Mier Community Church.

He is survived by his loving wife, Vonda; children, Rebecca Ann Henderson, Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Alan Dale (Kerrie) Henderson, Swayzee, Gary Dean (Danica Williams) Henderson, Marion, Andy Jay (Sheri) Henderson, Fairmount, and Randy Ray (Laura) Henderson, Powhatan, Virginia; grandchildren, Shawnna, Justin, Adam C., Desiree, Jordan, Amanda, Adam L., Maranda, Erica, Makinzie, Wesley, Landry, and Jaylyn; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Henderson, Wabash; sisters, Donna (Steve) DeVault, Marion, and Debbie (Gary) DeFouw, Michigan; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his beloved, dog, Molly.

The family will receive visitors from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, January 21, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN. A Masonic Service will take place at 5:30 p.m.

A Celebration of Life Service for Dale will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 22, 2018, at the funeral home with Pastor Gary Bracken officiating.
