Lt. Gov. Crouch, IHCDA launched a Crowdfunding Campaign for Wabash City Park Playground

WABASH, IN – Wabash County children will soon have a place to play if this crowdfunding campaign reaches its goal of raising $25,000 by May 26, 2024. If successful, the project led by the Wabash Parks Department will receive a matching grant as part of the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority’s (IHCDA) CreatINg Places program.
“The addition of this playground to Wabash City Park will increase access to recreation, promote
healthy lifestyles, and improve the overall quality of life in the community,” said Lt. Gov. Suzanne
Crouch, Indiana’s Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development. “This project will bring immediate
positive change for the community and make a lasting impact for years to come.”
Funds from this campaign will be used to construct playground equipment selected by community
members, lay artificial turf, and add a sidewalk and parking lot.
“Multiple generations of kids have played at City Park,” said Adam Hall, Wabash Parks
Superintendent. “I have listened to different community members share their stories of what playing
at City Park means to them. One member shared their story of watching their grandkids play at the
same park and playground where their daughter played. Another person shared how they grew up on
the playground while their father played ball on the softball diamond in the summer. The community
can now invest in a playground through Patronicity that will keep the stories of playing at City Park
going through generations to come.”
Since the CreatINg Places program began in 2016, projects have raised more than $10.4 million in
public funds and an additional $8.7 million in matching IHCDA funds. The program is available to
projects located in Indiana communities. Non-profit entities (with 501c3 or 501c4 status) and local
units of government are eligible to apply. Eligible projects must have a minimum total development
cost of $10,000, where the recipient will receive $5,000 in IHCDA matching funds should it
successfully raise $5,000 through Patronicity. IHCDA will provide matching grant funds up to $50,000
per project.
