Jewel M. (Mays) McVey, 84, Marion, passed away at 7:21 am on Monday, March 25, 2024, at Parkview Hospital Randallia in Fort Wayne. She was born in Heidrick, Kentucky, on Monday, October 23, 1939, to Vernon and Anna (Ledford) Mays. On June 23, 1960, she married Sie “Harold” McVey. Jewel knew from the first time she saw Harold that he was the one she would marry. Their love story spanned nearly 59 years before he preceded her in death on April 20, 2019.
Jewel graduated from Knox Central High School and was a nurse’s aide at Marion General Hospital (now Marion Health). After her retirement from the hospital as the supervisor of Central Supply, she was an educational assistant at Southeast Elementary School. Jewel was a member of Grace Community Church.
Jewel loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved singing in the church choir.
Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Susan (Robin) Young of Marion; son, John (Monita) McVey of Greenwood; granddaughters, Savanna White, Adrienne (Andrew) Coulter, Bethany (Josh) Cade, and Megan (Blake) Neuhauser; great-grandsons, Andrew Diskey and Liam Neuhauser; great-granddaughters, Clara Neuhauser and Eleanor Cade; sisters, Sally Mays and Mary (Amadeus) Leano; and brother, Harry (Opal) Mays.
She was also preceded in death by her parents.
The family will receive visitors from 10:00 am to 11:30 am on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Jewel’s life will begin at 11:30 am with Rev. Dr. Tom Mansbarger officiating. Burial will take place at Marion National Cemetery.
