Living Well Winchester Center announced the November 2018 events

Patriotic and educational tend to be the November themes.  

Living Well Winchester Center proves every month that you are never too old to celebrate your birthday.

The November senior birthday party featuring musical entertainment by Josie Wade & Rick Elliot will be held on Thursday, November 8, at 1p.m. at Winchester Center. The monthly event features ice cream and homemade cakes made by the hostess team led by Linda Arrick.  The committee also prepares a gift bag for everyone celebrating a November birthday.  

Since 2003, Winchester Center has collected photocopies of current and former U.S. Military service men and women with a Wabash County connection to honor and pay tribute to those who served. The annual display in the lobby of the senior center remains until Thanksgiving. All ages are invited to stop in and see the display.  The center is open weekdays from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. at 239 Bond St; Wabash. The collection continues to grow each year.  Those with military family members, past and present, are encouraged to bring in a photo to be photocopied and displayed annually.  

The 16th annual Veterans Day Program, at Living Well Winchester Center will be held on Monday, November 12, at 11:30. The program is open to all and will feature a military honor guard, a presentation by the Wabash County Veterans Officer, recognition of the branches of service and refreshments. Young and old alike are encouraged to attend.  

Our Town Presents is a monthly program held at Winchester Center featuring local people of interest you might not have ever heard about in the news.  The November program topic will be “General George Custer” presented by Bill Gerding, a local expert on Custer and the Battle of Little Big Horn to which he has traveled at least 18 times.  The program will be on Thursday, November 15, at 12:00. The Veterans’ Day program on November 12 and the Our Town Presents program by Gerding about General George Custer are appropriate for those who are home schooling children of middle and high school ages.

Purdue Extension provides monthly educational programs at Living Well Winchester Center.   The more that is learned about nutrition, the more the old adage, you are what you eat, proves to be true.  Purdue Extension will present “Lighten Up Your Cooking” on Thursday, November 29, at 12:00;, 239 Bond St., Wabash.  Reservations requested at 260-563-4475.

Holidays are not easy for everyone, especially those who have experienced loss.  On Friday, November 16 at 11:30 Surviving the Holidayswill be presented by Gail Cousino of Visiting Nurses Hospice, an Allen County United Way Agency.   As with most of the programs and events, reservations requested at 260-563-4475.

An organizing meeting for a new Alzheimer Caregiver Support Group based at Living Well Winchester Center will also be held on Friday, Nov. 16 at 1:00.  The group will be led by Gail Cousino of Visiting Nurses Hospice.  The meeting is limited to caregivers.  

Living Well in Wabash County and its services, Wabash County Transit, Winchester Center and Community Cupboard will be closed on Thursday, November 22 and Friday, November 23 in observation of the Thanksgiving Holiday.  The services will resume on Monday, November 26.
