74 Seniors Graduate Friday Night At Northfield High School’s Class Of 2016 Ceremony

WABASH COUNTY,Indiana – Seventy-four graduating seniors marched to the tune of Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance in the Northfield Jr./Sr. High School gym at the 2016 Northfield High School Graduation ceremony.

After a welcome by Senior Noah Shear, the school’s A Cappella Choir under the direction of Mark Nevil performed two selections entitled “Blessing” and “You Raise Me Up.”

Then the 2016 Northfield Salutatorian and Valedictorian took to the stage to give their respective speeches. Both speeches took a walk down memory lane as to what has happened to their class over the years.

Biehl said that she will attend the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Long Island, NY, to study Nuclear Engineering.

Valedictorian David Shoue, who also received an Academic Honors Diploma and is a member of the NHS, asked the graduating class to rise to take a round of applause before — in true President Obama style — he literally dropped the mic on stage and exclaimed “Dave out!” to a chorus of laughter. Shoue on what he told the Northfield High School Class of 2016 Friday night.

Shoue will attend Purdue and he plans on pursuing a degree in Material Engineering. Elizabeth Howenstine graduated a lucky number 13th in her class and told MiBash News what she was feeling after receiving her diploma on Friday evening.

In some ways, 2016 was a year of firsts for the Northfield graduating class. It was Paul Voight’s first year as principal and he describes his impressions of the senior class.

It was also the first time the beautiful new hardwood floor in the Northfield gym experienced a graduation ceremony. Another coat of finish will be put on the gymnasium floor this summer.
