Martha, (Marcie), Payne passed away peacefully on August 6th at the age of 95. Marcie was born in Fairmount to parents Wesley Payne and Mary Evelyn Payne (Winslow) August 24th, 1920. After graduating from Fairmount High School she served in the US Navy as a WAVE during World War Two. Receiving an Honorable Discharge, she then moved to Chicago, Illinois and entered art school. After completing her studies she did work as a fashion illustrator for magazines and newspapers as well as some fashion designing. Some years later she changed careers and became an executive secretary at the McCormick Seminary in Chicago. She worked there until her retirement.
Martha’s life was celebrated and joyful memories of her were shared at the 97th Annual Payne reunion at Grant United Methodist Church in Fairmount.
