Gregory “Greg” Lee Monin

Gregory “Greg” Lee Monin, 49, Peru, passed away at 5:27 a.m. due to a car accident on Friday, January 12, 2018, in Peru. He was born in Marion on August 5, 1968, to David L. and Phyllis (Maples) Monin. On November 23, 2001, Greg married Michelle Lynn Shepherd, and she survives.

Greg was a 1987 graduate of Oak Hill High School and attended Ivy Tech. He served in the U.S. Army during the Gulf War, as well as in the U.S. Army National Guard. In 2008, Greg began working at Chrysler in Kokomo. He was a member of IBEW #873 and had worked for the union as an electrician for many years.

Anyone who was acquainted with Greg knew how much he loved Jeeps. It was his passion for Jeeps that caused him to start the Kokomo Jeep Club this past year with his good friend, Jason O’Haver. Since that time, the club had already grown to 153 members. Greg enjoyed all things with engines, whether it was working on cars, four-wheeling, or riding his Harley. He liked fixing things around the house and going camping, especially at the Mississinewa Campgrounds with his Jeep friends. Greg was also an avid Indianapolis Colts fan, and he was an energetic master of many trades. He will be missed greatly by his family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Michelle; children, Morgan (Lukas) Monin Moeller, Germany, Kayla Monin, Kokomo, and Sierra Monin, Peru; brothers, Michael (Jana) Monin and Jason (Debbie) Monin; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; his dog, Shelby; and his cat, Ginger.

Preceding him in death was his son at birth, Austin Lee Monin, and his grandparents, LeRoy (Geraldine) Monin and Melvin (Zella) Planck.

The family will receive visitors from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

Greg’s funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 19, 2018, at New Life Community Church, 2011 W. 10th St., Marion, IN, with Pastor Garth Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Grant Memorial Park.
