Florence Mankin, 96, passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. Florence was born on September 7, 1920, to the late Edward and Nellie Stith in Marion. She married Raymond Mankin on November 21, 1946, and he preceded her in death on October 25, 1990.

Florence was a graduate of Marion High School. She worked as an operator at Indiana Bell Telephone until her marriage. She then worked for the Fresno, California Telephone Company. She retired from working in the Student Record Department at Marion High School in 1988, having previously worked at Kendall, Roosevelt, and Highland Schools. After retiring, she volunteered daily in the McCulloch Middle School library for another five years. Along with her husband, she was co-owner of Bleke Office Systems of Marion.

Florence enjoyed being involved in her community. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, a member of the Esther Circle at First United Methodist Church, Kappa Delta Phi Sorority, Department Club, American Business Woman’s Association, Republican Women’s Club, and Meshingomesia Country Club. She also volunteered annually with the Marion Soap Box Derby and the Exchange Club Pancake Days.

Florence is survived by her children, Ginnie (Martin) Lake and Michael Mankin, both from Marion; three grandchildren, Tori Mankin, Marion, and Michael and Matthew Mankin, both from Angola; and great-grandson, Matthew Mankin Jr., from Angola.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Coleen Page; a brother, Phillip Stith; and nephews, Phillip Stith Jr. and William Page Jr..

Calling hours will be held from 1-2 p.m. on Monday, March 13, 2017, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion. Final rites for Florence will begin immediately following the visitation at 2 p.m.. Florence will be laid to rest in Thrailkill Cemetery, Swayzee.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Marion-Grant County Humane Society, P.O. Box 1921, Marion, IN 46952, the Hostess House, 723 W. 4th St., Marion, IN 46952, and the First United Methodist Church, 624 S. Adams St., Marion, IN 46953.
