PERU, Ind. – Peru police say more than 50 vehicles were egged early Saturday morning along the nine block area on Peru’s east side during what officers believe to be a random act of vandalism. Officer Russ Tussey responded at around 6:50 AM Saturday to a report from a single resident on the 300 block of E. 3rd St. calling to report their vehicle had been struck with eggs. Tussey said when he began to investigate the scene, he discovered around 53 vehicles parked along nine blocks of E. 3rd St. had all been struck with at least one egg. The investigation revealed the incident likely occurred between around 3 AM and 6:30 AM.  He said it appears the suspects threw the eggs from a vehicle while driving down the street. Tussey, a 24 year veteran of the Peru Police Department, said he’s responded to plenty of egging complaints during his time on the force, but nothing has compared to Saturday’s vandalism spree. Tussey said the perpetrator of the act would likely face charges of criminal mischief but so far there are no suspects.
