Wesley “Wes” Alan Newton

Wesley “Wes” Alan Newton, 70, Marion, Arkansas, formerly of Marion, Indiana, passed away on May 21, 2022, in his home. He was born in Evansville, Indiana, on August 14, 1951, to Owen Dwight Newton and Constance Jean (Cook) Newton. On September 27, 1980, he married Marcia Freeman.

Wes graduated from Marion High School, Marion, Indiana, in 1970. After graduation, he served as an Aircraft Maintenance Specialist in the US Air Force and is a Vietnam veteran. He also served in the US Army as a Construction Equipment Repairer. He held several jobs in the mechanics and maintenance fields during his career. Wes retired from Schneider National Trucking Company, where he was a diesel mechanic and shop floor leader.

Family was a top priority for Wes. He loved all of his family–parents, siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents–but his wife, daughter, and granddaughters (all his “girls” or “kiddos”, as he called them) were his pride and joy.

One of Wes’ favorite activities was riding his Harley-Davidson. He especially liked his cross-country bike rides in the United States and mountain rides in Germany. He loved working in the yard and tinkering in his shop. Wes also loved art and had spent many hours drawing and creating art pieces. He had several Great Danes over the years, and he enjoyed walking in the woods with his dogs. Another of his favorite activities was hiking. He and his wife enjoyed hiking in the United States and in Germany, where they lived twice during their marriage. He was a very giving person, and he was always willing to help others.

Wes is survived by his wife, Marcia Newton, of Marion, Arkansas; daughter, Allison Newton of Marion, Arkansas; granddaughters, Chloe Kauffman and Lyndsey Almeda of Marion, Arkansas; his mother, Constance Newton of Marion, Indiana; sisters, Claudia (Rodney) Faulk of Marion, Indiana, Noreen (Don) Shearman of Ocala, Florida, and Lee Beth Moore (Jerry) of Kendallville, Indiana; and brother, Clyde Newton of Muncie, Indiana.

Wes was preceded in death by his father, Owen Dwight Newton, and sister, Denise “Dee Dee” (Newton) Kuehn.
