Weldon LeeRoy Coldren

Weldon LeeRoy Coldren, 85, of Wabash, passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at Parkview Regional Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana with his loving family by his side.

He was born at home in Wabash county to the late Melvin Sterling and Golda Viola (Binkerd) Coldren on April 5, 1938.

Weldon attended Lincolnville Elementary School in Lincolnville, Indiana and later graduated from Wabash High School in 1956. He went on to enlist in the Army Reserve in 1959 where he received the status of Sharpshooter. He was honorably discharged on October 31, 1964. He married Sally Sue (Howenstine) Coldren Bennett on October 18, 1959.

Throughout his life, Weldon worked hard, including on the family farm, at Mosier Tarps, Robinhood Hardware, driving for UPS, running his own upholstery shop out of his home, and as a quality technician in the testing lab at General Tire. Aside from working, Weldon had many hobbies. He enjoyed playing various musical instruments, including the guitar and banjo, working on cars, riding motorcycles, and attending  his grandchildren’s school programs and events. Weldon volunteered at the Wabash County Hospital Emergency Room, and at the Honeywell Center where he met and greeted many celebrities. 

Weldon was a man of faith. He was baptized at the Lincolnville Evangelical United Brethren Church (EUB) in his youth. His parents instilled honesty in him and his siblings from a young age. Weldon was a kind and gentle man, and will be missed for his friendly, easy going, and loving personality. He was a great conversationalist and the most important thing in his life was spending time with his family.

He is survived by his former wife Sally; daughters: Minda (Bryan) Parish, Melissa (Robert) Peterson; grandchildren: Blake Peterson, Taylor Peterson, and Jacob Figert, special companion, Desdemona Kilmer, Cyndi (David) Frischman, Andrew (Tianna) Frischman, Lauren Frischman, Evvy Frischman, Carrie Sommer, Harry (Judy) Kilmer.

Weldon is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings; Donald, Kenneth, Mildred “Millie,” and Lois.

A private service will be held at Memorial Lawns Cemetery in Wabash, Indiana.
