Wanda B. Smith

Wanda B. Smith, 100, Marion, passed away at 7:05 pm on Sunday, May 29, 2022, at Marion Health. She was born in Marion, Indiana, on Friday, May 12, 1922, to Major and Alta (Carmichael) Martin. On February 8, 1942, she married Donald P. Smith, and he preceded her in death on November 19, 1965. 

Wanda graduated from Swayzee High School in 1940. She had worked at Van Buren Appliance and the Fashion Barn. She was a member of Van Buren United Methodist Church. Wanda was the proud wife of Donald P. Smith, WWII Army Veteran, and she worked for the War Department during the war. She had lived in Swayzee, Van Buren, and Marion throughout her life. More than anything, Wanda cherished her family, as well as all of the friends she made at Van Buren and Cambridge Square.  

Survivors include her sons, Daniel P. (Cathy) Smith of Marion and Samuel R. (Renee) Smith of Stover, MO; daughter, Diana (Mike) Scott of Fort Wayne; grandsons, Troy (Cindy) Smith of Avon, Donald (Deborah) Scott of Fort Wayne, Todd (Brenda) Smith of Clarksdale, MO, and Donald (Pamela) Smith of Springfield, IL; granddaughters, Robin (Danny) Newhouse of Marion, Michele (Clark) Stoller of Bluffton, and Shawn Smith of Kansas City, MO; step-grandsons, Mike (Rhonda) Zajac of Lewistown, MO, and Matthew Losure of Marion; step-granddaughters, Chrissy (Rick) Stefano of Springfield, IL, and Christine (Andy) White of Indianapolis; 20 great-grandchildren; 16 step-great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Norma Martin; and several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald P. Smith; brothers, Clifford Martin and Robert Martin; and sisters, Vivian Tesdahl, Mary Pendergrass, and Wilma Frazee. 

The family will receive visitors from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Friday, June 3, 2022, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN. 

Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Wanda’s life will begin at 3:00 pm with Rev. John Parks and Rev. Clark Stoller officiating. Burial will take place at Gardens of Memory in Marion. 

The family is requesting that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
