Wabash County Dispatch Respond to Fireworks Injury on July 16th

WABASH COUNTY, Ind. – On July 16th, at approximately 9:00 p.m., Wabash County Central Dispatch received a 911 call of a person that had been injured by fireworks.  Upon arrival first responders determined that fireworks (mortar) had ignited inside a pick-up truck as the vehicle was traveling on the roadway.  John T. Schuler, age; 35, rural Wabash, was transported by Lutheran Air to St. Vincent Hospital Trauma Center in Indianapolis for traumatic injuries to both hands.  Another person in the vehicle, Matthew M. Richards, age; 36, Wabash, complained of possible hearing problems and refused treatment at the scene.  The investigation is continuing.

Assisting at the scene was the Wabash Fire Department, Noble Township Fire Department, and Wabash County EMA.
