Truck Driver Arrested With A Blood Alcohol Level Of Two And A Half Times Legal Limit

MIAMI COUNTY,Indiana – A Michigan truck driver was found slumped behind the wheel early Tuesday morning after he pulled off US 31 with a blood alcohol level of two and a half times the legal limit. Miami County Central Dispatch received a call that the driver, identified as 61-year-old Lyall Hanson of Sterling Heights, Michigan, was slumped over the steering wheel while traveling southbound on US 31. Officers from the Indiana State Police and the Miami County Sheriff’s Department tracked Hanson down US 31 until they found his truck parked in a lot on Eel River Cemetery Road.

Thinking he was suffering from a medical emergency, police discovered that Hanson was intoxicated and found open containers in his cab. He was charged with Operating While Intoxicated, as well as the open containers, and incarcerated in the Miami County Jail. Hanson was apparently traveling to Evansville hauling freight for Premier Transportation.
