Thomas Butts, 83, of Newport, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, February 13, 2023. He was born in Terre Haute, Indiana, on Monday, October 23, 1939, to Russell and Celia (Lawson) Butts. On December 20, 1975, he married Sally Tharp, and she survives.
Thomas graduated from Marion High School in 1957 and was a mould engineer with Foster-Forbes. He was a member of Manning Chapel Baptist Church. Thomas enjoyed fly fishing, golfing, and family get-togethers. As a younger man, he painted, drew, and played the guitar.
In addition to his loving wife, survivors include his sons, Tim (Lisa) Butts and Mark (Trisha) Butts; daughter-in-law, Twilla Butts; grandchildren, Travis Butts, Kelsie (Daniel) Gallion, Andrew (Kayla) Butts, Austin (fiancée Caitlyn) Butts, and Matthew Butts; six great-grandchildren; sister, Linda Posey; and brothers, Don Butts, Dennis (Deb) Butts, and Mike (Julie) Butts.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, David Butts; brother, Jerry Butts; and sister, Judy Cooley.
The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral and Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Thomas’ life will begin at 1:00 pm with Pastor Dennis Strange officiating. Burial will take place at Grant Memorial Park.
