Shirley M. (Harvey) Miller

Shirley M. (Harvey) Miller, 91, died Friday, July 6, 2018 at her Liberty Township, Indiana home.

Shirley was born in Liberty Township, Indiana on February 9, 1927, daughter of the late Russell and Mae (Woodruff) Harvey. Shirley graduated from Fairmount High School in 1945 and received her B.S. in Elementary Education from Taylor University. Shirley and Carl I. Miller were married on August 5, 1951. They shared 47 years of marriage before Carl’s death on August 26, 1998. Shirley served along with Carl in the ministry at Point Isabel United Methodist Church as well as in United Methodist churches in Indianapolis, Ft. Wayne, Arcola and Dunkirk, Indiana. They also served in the Friends Church in Mooresville, Indiana. Shirley and Carl were the owners of Miller’s Orchard. During her life Shirley blessed many by playing the piano and the marimba. She also enjoyed planting and taking care of her flowers and bird watching. The family will carry many other interests into the future.

Shirley is survived by five children; Phyllis (John) Fleming, Shelbyville, Patti (Jeff) McCrary, Inola, OK, Karl Miller, Fairmount, Rebecca (Phil) Belcher, Noblesville, and Mary (Brad) Merrill, Dike, IA, 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

 

Along with Shirley’s parents and husband, she was preceded in death by son, David Lee Miller, brother, Ralph Harvey and sister, Idris Anderson.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 S. Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana. A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 8, from 3:00-6:00 at the funeral home. The funeral service will be Monday, July 9, 2018 at 10:00am at Fairmount Friends Church 123 N Mill St, Fairmount, IN with Pastor Brock Myer officiating. Burial will be at Park Cemetery, Fairmount, Indiana.
