Sarah Elizabeth Spence, 77, Marion, passed away at 12:37 a.m. on Sunday, April 1, 2018, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born in Owingsville, Kentucky, on February 24, 1941, and was the daughter of James and Annabelle (Bowls) Purvis. Sarah married Claude Spence, and he preceded her in death in 2001.
Sarah was a homemaker throughout her life and loved her family dearly. She enjoyed spending time with them as much as possible, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She liked music, with her favorite artist/singer being Elvis. Sarah also enjoyed going to garage sales.
She will be missed by her daughters, Marianne (Jim) Fishbaugh, Marion, and Laura Penrod, Marion; step-children, James (Sharon) Spence, Somerset, Ronnie (Kathy) Spence, Huntington, Kathy (Kenny) Mullins, Marion, and Claudia (Forest) Apple, Marion; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; sisters, Allie Copher and Ada Crouch; brother, Sonny Purvis; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Jerry Spence; grandson, Travis Fishbaugh; three sisters; and two brothers.
The family will receive visitors from 9:30-11:30 a.m. with Sarah’s funeral service beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN. Rev. Charlie Easterday will be officiating with burial following at Grant Memorial Park.
