Ruth Elaine Brown, 89, of Marion, Indiana, formerly of Poway, California, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 8:52 am on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at Marion General Hospital. She passed away after a brief illness with her son and daughter by her side. She was born in Lansing, Michigan, on October 24, 1931, to Frank and Bessie (Butler) Daman.
Ruth graduated from Rodney Wilson High School, Sparrow Hospital School of Nursing (‘53), and Owosso Bible College (‘57). She married James Monte Brown on June 1, 1957, had three children, and later divorced. She worked as a Registered Nurse for 42 years until retiring in 1994.
She was a member of The Wesleyan Church, and her areas of service included: board member, Women’s Missionary Society, Sunday School teacher, Prison Ministry Bible Study, and after-school Kid’s Bible Club.
Ruth was generous with her love and care for others, even providing a home for at least eight people in their time of need. Above all, Ruth loved the Lord and was ready to join Him in heaven whenever He called her home.
Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl (Doug) Sharrard of Marion; son, Craig (Stephanie) Brown of Spokane, WA; grandchildren, Peter Owen, Allison Brown, Emily Peter, Nathan (DaVina) Sharrard, Laura (Adam) Patton, Adam (Jennifer) Sharrard, Matthew (Kendra) Sharrard, Matthew (Kodi) Brown, and Haleigh Brown; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, Gerald (late Bernice) Daman and Clyde (Anne) Daman; sister-in-law, Pat Daman; as well as several nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, James Brown; brother, Mark Daman; half-brother, Si; and half-sister, Huldah.
The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a funeral service to celebrate Ruth’s life will begin at 12:00 noon with Rev. Doug Sharrard and Matthew Sharrard officiating. Burial will take place at Dearborn Memorial Park Cemetery in Poway, CA.
