Ruth worked in the White Room for 30+ years with RCA/Thomson Consumer Electronics, retiring in 1995. She enjoyed holidays and family reunions. She was a very strong-willed and protective mother, who raised her five kids alone. Ruth liked the Fall apple orchards and, no matter the weather, a freshly-brewed cup of coffee was a must!
Survivors include her daughter, Lissa (Larry) Bougher of Marion; sons, David (Teresa) Sheward of Marion, Gregory (Lisa) Sheward of Marion, and Bryan (Jennifer) Sheward of Wabash; sister, Dixie Benfield of Marion; brother, Ralph (Sharon) Purvis of Warren; 8 grandsons; 11 great-grandsons; 3 great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Billy Joe Sheward; brothers, Francis Purvis, William Purvis, Robert Purvis, Eddie Purvis, and Dewayne Purvis; and sisters, Betty Purvis, Catherine Kendall, and Helen Purvis.
The family will receive visitors from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm August 24, 2023, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
A funeral service to celebrate Ruth’s life will begin at 10:00 am on Friday, August 25, 2023, at North Chapel. Pastor Tom Mansbarger will be officiating with burial following at Grant Memorial Park.
