Debbie attended Marion High School and graduated from High School in Fayetteville, NC. She returned to Marion and worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone. She attended classes at Tucker Career Center and went on to be an office manager at various dental offices in Marion and Muncie. Debbie enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her four granddaughters. She also enjoyed taking pictures, canning vegetables from her garden, and planting flowers. She liked sitting on the front porch or fishing with her husband Larry. Debbie loved to research her family genealogy. She was made stronger by her battle with cancer, and was a survivor. Debbie will be remembered as a generous, loving and caring woman who will be missed dearly. She was devoted to her family and always put them first in her life.
In addition to her loving husband of 55 years, Larry Thompson of Matthews, Debbie is survived by her daughters, Jennifer (Late Bobby) Moore of Matthews and Kimberly Skeens of Gas City; granddaughters, Hazel (Kyle Dilly) Moore, Delilah Moore, Katelynn (Trey) Alston and Kenzie (Brody Hardcastle) Skeens; sister, Deah Ann (Russ) Kinder of La Fontaine; sister-in-law, Janie Jefferies of Fairmount; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Milo and Betty Jefferies; brother, Dewey Jefferies; sisters, Daena Shaffer and Delene Kramer; nephew, Brett Kramer; father and mother-in-law, Lawrence and Wanda Thompson; and Godfather, Merrill Frances Stinnett.
The family will receive visitors from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St. Gas City, IN 46933.
A service to celebrate Debbie’s life will take place at 11:30 am on Thursday, August 24, 2023 with her niece, Staci Jefferies officiating. There will be an hour of visitation prior to the funeral on Thursday. Burial will follow at Matthews Cemetery.
