Robert Louis Wendel

Robert Louis Wendel, 95, of North Manchester, Indiana, died at 11:12 am, Saturday, September 9, 2023, at Parkview Wabash Hospital.  He was born on July 30, 1928, in Wabash County, Indiana, to Ernest L. and Bertha M. (Ridgway) Wendel.

Robert was a 1946 graduate of Lagro High School. He married Mary Jean Anderson on February 26, 1950 at St. Matthews Evangelical and Reformed Church in Wabash. Robert was a lifelong farmer in Wabash and Whitley counties. He was a member of the South Whitley Community Church, and past member of Urbana Lions Club and Indiana Farm Bureau. Robert was president of Hopewell Cemetery Association for 24 years.  

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jean Wendel of North Manchester, four children, Nancy Alspaugh of South Whitley, David (LuAnn) Wendel of North Manchester, Dean (Julie) Wendel of South Whitley, and Norma Wendel of Fishers, Indiana, nine grandchildren, John (Christy) Wendel of South Whitley and Adam (Megan) Wendel, both of South Whitley, Jennifer (Scott) Beyer of Greenfield, Indiana, Aaron (Carey) Wendel of Seattle, Washington, Jillian (Will) Hubertz of Lafayette, Indiana, Nathan (Sheree) Alspaugh, of Noblesville, Indiana, Nicole Gordon, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Allison (Chris) Joy of Columbia City, Indiana, and Lindsay (Luke) Spieser of Fort Wayne, 18 great-grandchildren, and niece, Sandra Gray of Scottsdale, Arizona.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Carl N. Wendel, and sister, Martha W. Foelber.

Memorial services will be 11:00 am, Saturday, September 16, 2023, at South Whitley Community Church, 6685 W State Road 14, South Whitley, with Denver Ayres officiating. Inurnment will be in Hopewell Cemetery, Lagro.  Friends may call one hour prior to the service Saturday, at the church. Arrangments by Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel, North Manchester. 

Preferred memorial is Urbana Lions Club.
