Richard Dale Jackson

Richard Dale Jackson, 88, Marion, went to be with the Lord at 1:04 a.m. at York Place on Sunday, August 26, 2018.  He was born in Marion on September 27, 1929, to the late Albert and Elizabeth (Johnson) Jackson.

Richard graduated from Marion High School in 1948 and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.  He married Verda Lee Wilson in February of 1953, and they had three children, Joyce, Steve, and Kay.

A lifelong resident of Grant County, Richard was the manager in the meat department at A&P Supermarket.  He then was the owner of Jackson’s Market in Marion and retired from there in 1996.  He was a member of Grant County Art Association and South Marion Businessmen.  He also attended Upland Community Church.

Richard had a great love for the outdoors and was an avid sportsman.  He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and he was an avid gardener.  He had a great love for nature and was a local landscape artist and teacher with many paintings hanging throughout Grant County.  Richard will also be known for how much of a prankster he was.

He is survived by his children, Joyce (Carlton) Fisher, Houghton, New York, Steve (Chau) Jackson, Marion, and Kay Jackson, Cary, North Carolina; grandchildren, Ryan (Lori) Fisher, Jason (Alex) Fisher, Chris (Leslie) Jackson, Jennifer (Dave) Taylor, Jamie Hashburger, Crystal (John) Selleck, Grant Buskey, and Elizabeth Bell; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Earl (Patti) Jackson, Marion, and Harold (June) Jackson, Marion; sister-in-law, Jeanne Jackson, Baltimore, Ohio; and brothers-in-law, Talbot McPherson, Marion, and Jay Ward (Anina) Wilson, Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Albert (Elizabeth) Jackson; his loving wife of 54 years, Verda Lee; brothers, Jerry and Gene Jackson; and sister, Joan McPherson.

The family will receive visitors from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

Services to celebrate Richard’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, August 29, 2018, at the funeral home with Pastor Mick Simpkins officiating.  Burial will follow at Jefferson Cemetery.
