UPDATE: Police searching for person of interest in deadly stabbing in Huntington found


UPDATE: This from wthr.com: HUNTINGTON, IN- The Madison County sheriff confirmed the suspect, 28-year-old James Lee Bonewits, was found in a field Friday morning near County Roads 200 West and 1650 North, north of Alexandria and west of Summitville.

Bonewits was found roughly 40 miles southwest from where the stabbing happened.

ORIGINAL RELEASE: HUNTINGTON, IN- On June 23 2022, at approximately 7:23 P.M., officers with the Huntington Police Department were dispatched to a stabbing with multiple victims in the 600 block of Whitelock Street. Upon arrival, officers located four stabbing victims that needed immediate medical care. Officers began administering aide until the Huntington Fire Department and Parkview EMS arrived. One individual was pronounced dead at the scene. Three others were taken to nearby hospitals with life threatening conditions. At this time, there is no motive.
At this time, the identity of the deceased victim will not be released until coroner identification and family notification has been completed.

Officers obtained information about a person of interest who left prior to their arrival. The person of interest is still on the run and we are asking the public’s help for any information into his whereabouts.
James Lee Bonewits is person of interest and is believed to be driving a 2006 silver Chevy Impala with Illinois license plate #DH22225. He is approximately 6’3”, weighing about 250 pounds. He has brown hair, blue eyes and a beard.
He should be considered armed and dangerous. If you have any information about his whereabouts, please contact the Huntington Police Department at 260-356-7110.
