PCS Superintendent Addresses School Closure

This from Superintendent Sam Watkins of Peru Community Schools: PERU, IN- The governor has suspended face to face education for the remainder of the 2020 school year.

The administrative staff has anticipated the possibility of this action and we will continue our plan of using waiver days on Monday and Tuesday with e-learning days taking place on Wednesdays Thursdays and Fridays.

We will start this weekly schedule on April 6.

Our last student day would be May 13 and our last teacher day would be May 14 on this schedule.

This would give us 160 educational days which is the requirement from the governor.
Further guidance on student grades, due dates of assignments, and  graduation plans will be forthcoming.

I am meeting with the administrators in a Microsoft teams format on April 6 to discuss and make vital decisions.
This new order by the governor does not affect the resolution passed by our school board that allows me to continue our certified and classified pay.

I will be conducting a caller tonight to inform students, parents and staff.

More information will be coming your way after our Monday Administration meeting.  I will send you the agenda before we meet. Please call me if needed.

I am confident that “this” staff will get our students and each other through this most trying time.
