Today (Monday) is “Moral Day of Action” at the state Capitol in Indianapolis, as well as other capitols across the country – with leaders of different faiths joining advocates and activists in a call for lawmakers and candidates to move away from what they see as “regressive, extremist” policies. Mike Oles III, an organizing director with Hoosier Interfaith Power and Light and the United Methodist Church says some lawmakers in Indiana claim to be moral, but that is not the case.

The Moral Day of Action rally and march is happening today on the south side of the Statehouse. It gets under way at 11 a-m.

Oles says families are struggling economically in Indiana, and the state still is too reliant on fossil fuels. He says people impacted by bad decisions made by Indiana’s leaders will march and rally.

The architect of the Forward Together Moral Movement is the Reverend William Barber II, a North Carolina pastor. Barber advocates for a “revolution of moral values” to resist what he claims is a divide-and-conquer strategy by extremists. Instead, he wants leaders to look at public policy through what he calls “the moral lens of justice for all.”

Barber believes extremist policies are, in his words, “morally indefensible and economically insane.”
