Miami County Man Sentenced to Six Years in Prison

MIAMI COUNTY, Ind. – On Thursday, August 3rd, Jared Hunt, 33, pleaded guilty to possession of a narcotic drug in Miami County Circuit Court and was sentenced to six years in prison – the maximum for a Level 5 felony – from an arrest that occurred in Peru on August of 2015. He was originally charged with possession, allegedly dealing narcotics and resisting law enforcement. Hunt’s conviction is just the latest in a long list of run-ins with the law. Since he turned 18, Hunt’s been arrested 22 times, received four felony and five misdemeanor convictions and still has cases pending in Miami and Howard counties. His arrest in Kokomo includes charges of dealing in a narcotic drug, possession of a narcotic drug, maintaining a common nuisance, unlawful possession of a syringe and false informing, according to court documents. His pending Miami County arrest, which occurred on June 30, includes charges of possession of a controlled substance, three counts of unlawful possession of a legend drug, operating while intoxicated endangering a person, operating while intoxicated, failure to signal for turn or lane change, disregarding a stop sign and driving left of center, court documents show. Hunt will be sent to the Indiana Department of Correction: Reception Diagnostic Center in Plainfield, Indiana, where he will be evaluated and then placed in an appropriate facility.
