Miami County Man Facing Child Abuse And Battery Charges After Child Is Flown To Trauma Center

MIAMI County,Indiana – According to a press release by Miami County Sheriff Tim Miller, a Miami County resident was arrested as a result of a child abuse investigation. On Tuesday, the Miami County Sheriff’s Department received information that a six-month-old child was transported to Dukes Memorial Hospital and later air lifted to a trauma center with a suspicious head injury. An investigating was immediately initiated by the Miami County Sheriff’s Office and the Indiana DCS.

After talking to specialists at the trauma center who attended the child and after an investigation at the child’s residence in Miami County, 23-year-old Alexander Lockhart was arrested by the Miami County Sheriff’s Department shortly after midnight on Thursday. Lockhart was charged with Neglect of a Dependent Child Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, Aggravated Battery, Maintaining a Common Nuisance and Possession of Marijuana. He is currently incarcerated in the Miami County Jail where his bail was initially set at $68,000.

The child’s injuries consist of acute subdural hematoma, multiple rib fractures and multiple bruises on its head, face and torso. The investigation is ongoing and the press release stated that additional charges may be filed at a later date.
