Merrill Keith Byers, 82, of Upland, passed away at 1:49 pm on Sunday, October 31, 2021, at Marion Health. He was born in Marion on April 4, 1939, to Ora and Ethel (Harshman) Byers. On September 19, 1963, he married Elaine Ervin, and she survives.
Merrill served in the United States Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Following his military service, Merrill worked for Greeneline Manufacturing in Marion and Delta Electric in Marion.
Merrill liked working in the yard and going to classic car shows. He also liked playing Euchre and Uno, as well as watching football. Merrill cherished his family more than anything and always liked teasing his grandchildren. He especially enjoyed traveling with his wife.
In addition to his loving wife, Elaine, Merrill is survived by his son, Randall (Vicki) Byers of Upland; daughters, Tina (Wayne) Dobson of SC and Lori (Arron) Hamilton of IL; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and friends; and his cats.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Albert Byers, Kenneth Byers, Omar Byers, Robert Byers, Darl Byers, and Ronald Byers; and sisters, Lucille Cochran, Opal Hillman, Vada Horn, and Donna Sample.
The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Thursday, November 4, 2021, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a funeral service to celebrate Merrill’s life will begin at 1:00 pm with Rod Boatwright officiating. Burial will take place at Jefferson Cemetery in Upland.
