Max B. Hethcote

Max B. Hethcote, 90, of Warren, passed away at 6:40 pm on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. He was born in Huntington County on April 21, 1931, to Hurshel and Anna (Butler) Hethcote. On February 23, 1948, he married Luella Ann Decker, and she survives.

Max worked as a Die Maker for 31 years with General Motors in Marion, retiring in 1987. He was owner/operator of Country Auto Sales in Andrews for 14 years, owner/operator at Morgan Driveaway, and owner/operator of a Standard gas station on the south side of Marion. Max was a member of Lakeview Wesleyan Church, where he was involved in the seniors group.

Max enjoyed traveling with family, loved horses, and working on the family farm. He also liked woodworking. Above all, Max cherished his family and the time they spent together. He especially loved helping his children with projects. Max was a caring, loving, and fun yet hard-working man who was dedicated to his family and his Lord.

In addition to his loving wife of 73 years, Luella, Max is survived by his daughters, Connie D. (late Robert) Trosper of Gould City, MI, Cheryl L. (Rich) Bockmon of Fairmount, Kathy (Dave) Hinds of Marion, Deb (Phil) Schlotter of Warren, Pamela (Tom) Robbins of Logansport, Becky (Warren) Winkleman of Huntington, and Penny (Paula Fleener) Hethcote of Franklin; son, Jim (Kim) Hethcote of Warren; 24 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren plus one on the way; 20 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Janice (Jon) Kellam of Mt. Etna; sister-in-law, Donna Hethcote of Goshen; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Max was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Courtney Tenille Black; great-great-granddaughter, Legacy Gayle-Lyn Dils; son-in-law, Greg Hinds; sisters, AnnaBelle Friend, Arliss Jean Drabenstot, Melba Milar, and Wanda Hunnicutt; and brothers, C. Dea Hethcote, Hurshel Hethcote, Jr., Merrill Hethcote, and Merritt Hethcote.

The family will receive visitors from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

A funeral service to celebrate Max’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 18, 2021, at Lakeview Wesleyan Church, 5316 S. Western Ave, Marion, IN, preceded by an additional hour of visitation beginning at 10:00 am. Max’s son-in-law, Tom Robbins, will be officiating with burial following at Lancaster Cemetery in Huntington County. Close family friend, Officer Cole Lahr, will lead the procession to the cemetery.
