Marie E. Smuck

Marie E. Smuck, 103, Marion, passed away at 6:27 am on Thursday, February 25, 2021. She was born in Whitley County, Indiana, on Monday, October 22, 1917, to the late Dennis and Golda (Hazen) Keirn. On June 10, 1939, she married Franklin Jacob Smuck, who preceded her in death.

Marie graduated from Larwill High School’s Class of 1935 and attended Marion Business College. She worked for various employers including Producer’s Creamery and Foster-Forbes, and she retired after 30 years from the Purchasing Department of RCA in 1986. She was a member of ABWA (charter member both chapters) and Eastern Star. She attended First Friends Church, where she was a member of Double Nickel and Time Builders and Golden Band Sunday School classes. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, was active in the RCA Bowling League, and took flowers and read to members of the church who were homebound.

Survivors include her sons, Eldon Franklin (Phyllis) Smuck of Westerville, OH, W. Harold (Ronda) Smuck of Converse, and Dale C. (Rebecca) Smuck of Fort Wayne; 7 grandchildren, Chris (Christine) Smuck of Reynoldsburg, OH, Allison (Brian) Moss of Grove City, OH, Kristie (David) Sellers of Norwalk, OH, Dr. Matt (Dr. Kamala) Smuck of Portola Valley, CA, Kari (Bret) Nelson of Asheville, NC, Dr. Heather (Michael) Case of Bakersville, CA, and Melissa (Calin) Short of Waldorf, MD; 13 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; half-sister, Carolyn (Ivan) Jones; half-brother, Rick (Marilyn) Keirn; and sister-in-law, Alice Keirn.

She was also preceded in death by her great-granddaughter, Chelsea Martinez; brothers, Clifford Keirn and Hubert Keirn; and sisters, Velma Walker, Francis Keirn, and Lois Mae Keirn.

The family will receive visitors from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at First Friends Church, 2211 N. Wabash Ave., Marion, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Marie’s life will begin at 1:00 pm. Pastor Dwight Elliott will be officiating with burial taking place at Gardens of Memory in Marion.
