Richard D. “Rocky” Lane, 85, of Marion, passed away at 6:44 am on Thursday, February 25, 2021, in his home. He was born in Marion on October 2, 1935, to John and Glendora (Davis) Lane. He married his loving wife, Marilyn K. Smith, in May of 1960, and she preceded him in death on April 12, 2015.
Richard graduated from Marion High School. He served in the United States Army, where he achieved the rank of Specialist 4. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, 2nd Class Gunner Medal, and Rifle Sharpshooter Medal. Following his military service, Richard worked as a crane hooker for over 30 years with Fisher Body until his retirement.
Richard was a member of Jesus Fellowship Family Church. He enjoyed working in his barn, where he built things. He also liked getting in his car and taking drives. It didn’t matter how short or how long the drive was. Richard liked going out to eat with family and friends. He also liked listening to music, especially Jimmy Swaggart.
Survivors include his daughters, Candy (Robert) Falt of Powhatan, VA, and Cindy Lane of Marion; granddaughters, Loretta (Tim) Green, Ann Marie (David) Parker and Katie (Tony Dunham) Lane; grandsons, Kyle (Brandie) Falt and Joshua Trees; 8 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Richard was also preceded in death by his parents.
The family will receive visitors from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm on Tuesday, March 2, 2021, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN 46952.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Richard’s life will begin at 12:30 pm. Burial will take place at Marion National Cemetery.
