Margie E. Vice

Margie E. Vice, born July 27, 1922, passed away at the age of 96. She was born in Jasper County, Indiana but lived most of her life in Marion, Indiana.

Margie graduated from Marion High School in 1940 and was the salutatorian of her class. After years as a homemaker, she returned to school. She graduated cumlaude from Marion College in 1959 with a bachelors of arts degree and was listed in the Who’s Who in the American Colleges and Universities. She earned her Masters degree from Ball State University in 1964. After graduation, Margie was employed by Marion Community Schools from 1959 to 1984. She taught math at Martin Boots and was a guidance counselor at Jones Junior High School.

She was a member of the Marion Hostess House, Women’s Department Club, Exchange Club, American Legion Auxiliary Post 368, American Contact Bridge Club, Indiana Retired Teachers, Grant County Democratic Women, and the Moose Lodge. Margie enjoyed time with family and friends, extensive travels, Bridge every week, gardening, reading and co-authoring “The Survey”-the MHS newsletter from 1998 to 2010. Her kind and generous spirit will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

She is survived by several endeared nieces and nephews and their families as well as many cherished friends.

Margie is preceded in death by her parents, Floyd W. and Mildred E. (Bishop) Armstrong; her husband of 62 years, Elton R. Vice; sons, Douglas A. “Tony” Vice and Daniel L. Vice; brother, William Armstrong; sister, Dorothy Althouse; brother-in-law, Walter Althouse; sisters-in-law, Betty Armstrong and Phyllis Rockelman Armstrong; niece, Carol Armstrong Ball.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, October 10, 2018 in Owen-Weilert-Duncan Funeral Home, Marion Chapel, 2722 South Washington Street, Marion, Indiana. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 in the funeral home from 11am-1pm with Chaplain Ron Forsythe officiating. A private burial will take place in Marion National Cemetery, Marion.
