Margaret C. “Mugs” Scher

Margaret C. “Mugs” Scher, 82, of Huntington, IN, passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at Heritage Pointe of Warren, Warren, IN.

Mrs. Scher was born on June 27, 1936, to Earl V. and Florence C. (Conner) Schultis in Cleveland, Ohio.  Her parents preceded her in death.  She married Richard Thomas Scher on October 5, 1957.  He survives and resides in Huntington.

Mugs graduated from Auburn High School in 1954 and from St. Joseph School of Nursing in 1957.  She was a surgical nurse at Huntington Memorial Hospital for 36 years and retired in 1996.  She was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, the Rosary Sodality and Ladies VFW Auxiliary #2689 in Huntington.

Along with her husband, Richard, of 61 years she is survived by one son, Kevin J. (Susan) Scher, Peru, IN; four daughters, Karen (Dan) Dunbar, Martinsville, IN, Sandra (Greg) Augspurger, Denver, NC, Barbara (Doug) Shock, North Manchester, IN, Beth (Mike) Clark, Huntington, IN; one brother, James (Diana) Schultis, Albion, IN; eight grandchildren; Tony (Tasha) Dunbar, Luke (Julie) Augspurger, Jake (fiancé’ Annie) Augspurger, Levi (Tiffany Griese) Shock, Erin (Rob) Toll, Jared Clark, Molly Scher, Nicky Scher; and 4 great grandchildren, Hadley Toll, Tyson Dunbar, Tayden Dunbar and Caleb Augspurger.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Tom Schultis, John “Jack” Schultis; and one sister, Mary Ann Koons.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, January 14, 2019, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street Huntington, IN.

Recitation of the Rosary will be held prior to calling hours at 2:45 p.m. at the funeral home.

Additional calling hours will be held on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, prior to Mass from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 860 Cherry Street, Huntington, IN, with Father Tony Steinacker presiding.

Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington, IN.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Masses for SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church or St. Mary Catholic Church or to the Alzheimer’s Association in care of McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
