Light Up Wabash event to celebrate first electrically lit city

WABASH, IN- The 144th Anniversary for Wabash being the first electrically lit city is Easter Sunday, the day we celebrate our Risen Savior, Jesus, who is the light of the world.

A special community event is planned for March 31 at 8:00PM at the Wabash County Courthouse.

The gathering, Light Up Wabash, will include a brief celebration message, prayer for our city and community and an opportunity to prayer walk if interested. Bring a light to shine.

On March 31, 1880, at 8:00PM more than 10,000 people and Councils of 19 Cities witnessed the event as arc lights from the Wabash courthouse spread light throughout the area. Newspapers from coast to coast in America reported the story. One history article said: “This remarkable achievement not only transformed the lives of its residents, but also paved the way for the electrification of cities worldwide.”

Common Ground along with the National Day of Prayer team feel that this 144th anniversary is an opportune time to gather the body of Christ at the courthouse to once again light up Wabash on March 31, 2024 at 8:00PM.
