Kyle Douglas Kirby, 45, Marion, passed away in his home on Monday, November 22, 2021. He was born in Marion, Indiana, on February 3, 1976, to Mike Kirby and Kay Kirby Durkes.
Following his graduation from Marion High School in 1994, Kyle continued his education at IPFW, where he received his teacher’s certification. He then studied at Hanover College, as well as at Virginia State, where he received his Masters degree. It was in Hopewell, Virginia, where he began his teaching career. He then returned to Indiana to be an administrator at Marion High School, first serving as Assistant Principal and then Principal. His love for administration and leading didn’t end there, though. He served as Principal in New Palestine, Wayne, and Dekalb High School.
Kyle loved sports and was an avid baseball and basketball player. While at IPFW, he was selected as an NCAA Strength and Conditioning All-American and also led the nation in field goal percentage. He liked to attend concerts and was a huge Grateful Dead fan. He and his brother, Travis, would go everywhere together.
Kyle will be remembered as one who deeply loved his family and was a loving father. He was a lifelong educator who loved teaching, learning, and leading.
Survivors include his mother, Kay (Dr. Terry) Durkes; father, Mike (Mary) Kirby; son, Miller Kirby; brother, Travis (Erin) Kirby; niece and nephew, Chloe Kirby and Kevin Kirby; and two step-brothers, Tony (Sylvia) Diodore and Nick (Cara) Diodore.
The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Friday, November 26, 2021, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a memorial service to celebrate Kyle’s life will begin at 1:00 pm.
