John Patrick “JP” Jones

John Patrick “JP” Jones, 69, Marion, passed away at 1:37 am on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at VA Northern Indiana Health Care System in Indianapolis. He was born in Lafayette, Indiana, on Friday, March 19, 1954, to Paul and Catherine (Donahoe) Jones.  On April 6, 1985, he married Alicia Drook, who survives.

JP graduated from Lafayette Jeff High School.  He served 32 years in the military, retiring as a Master Sergeant.  He received the Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, and Army Achievement Medal.  JP served 25 years with the State Police, retiring as a Master Trooper.  He was involved in firearms instruction, explosive ordinance disposal, and the riot squad.  He was also a Sergeant for the Forensic Crime Lab team.  He finished his career with the VA, where he was a captain, detective, and criminal investigator.

JP loved and adored the love of his life, Alicia.  Family meant everything to him, and he was actively involved in raising his children and grandchildren.  He served everyone first while his needs and wants came last.  He will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

In addition to his loving wife of 38 years, survivors include his siblings, Paul (Marilyn) Jones, Alan Jones, Diane Mowery, Cathy Vanderipe, and Steve (Patty) Jones; children, Ed Jones-Shannahan, Shaun Jones, Danielle Blanton, and Josh (Alicia) Jones; 12 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Elma Drook; and sister-in-law, Pandy (Steve) Warner.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Judith Cross; brother, Anthony Jones; and father-in-law, Richard Drook.

The family will receive visitors from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Lighthouse Assembly of God, 5909 S. Jay St., Marion, IN 46953.

On Friday, February 9, 2024, a funeral service to celebrate JP’s life will begin at 11:30 am with Pastor Jerry Gallaway officiating.  Burial will take place at Marion National Cemetery.
