John Lee Smith

John Lee Smith, 86, Marion, passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2022, at Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis. He was born in Wabash, Indiana, on Sunday, December 22, 1935, to Clyde Smith and Ethel Hall. In August 1991, he married Margaret S. Bookout, who survives.

John attended Wabash High School and then served in the United States Navy in Japan during the Korean War. Following his military service, John worked as an electrician for 35 years with RCA.

He loved traveling (48 of the 50 states), fishing and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Smith; sons, Doug (Susan) Smith, Kenneth L. Smith, Dale A. (Brenda Haynes) Smith; step-sons, Mark Brown, Larry Brown; step-daughters, Barb (Bob) Sills, Yolanda (Steve) Bennett, Valerie (Stan) Miller; brother, Richard Smith; and multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Smith, Sr. and Ethel Hall; first wife, Jacquline S. Smith; son, John L. Smith, Jr.; and step-son, Randy Brown.

The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at Needham-Storey-Wampner, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main Street, Gas City, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a Funeral Service to celebrate John’s life will begin at 1:00 pm.  Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery.
