James “Jim” W. Stambaugh

James “Jim” W. Stambaugh, 80, Converse, passed away at 3:26 pm on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at Marion Health in Marion. He was born in Converse, Indiana, on Friday, August 22, 1941, to Ira “Doc” and Sarah (Kelley) Stambaugh. On July 5, 1969, he married Ruth E. Huggins, who survives.

Jim attended Converse High School and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He achieved the rank of SP4 and was honorably discharged. Following his military service, Jim worked in Production for 31 years with Chrysler in Kokomo, retiring on November 30, 2001.

Jim was an avid racing fan and especially enjoyed watching Sprint cars and NASCAR. He owned five stock cars over the years with his brother, Dale, and mainly served as a mechanic for their racing team. Jim even built a go-kart for his daughters. Jim was a hard-working, dedicated, and friendly man who never met a stranger, and he will be missed dearly.

In addition to his loving wife, Ruth, survivors include his daughters, Marcy (David) Goodpaster of Marion and Joni (Joseph) Motz of Noblesville; grandsons, Tyler Goodpaster and Jordan Goodpaster; granddaughters, Lauren Motz and Olivia Motz; brother, Dale (late Inez) Stambaugh of Amboy; sister, Mary (late Seymour) Levy of FL; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty Tipton; and brothers, Wayne Stambaugh, Albert “Pete” Stambaugh, and John Stambaugh.

The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Monday, April 18, 2022, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a funeral service to celebrate Jim’s life will begin at 1:00 pm with Pastor Tom Mansbarger officiating. Burial will take place at Grant Memorial Park.
