Hubert E. Tucker, Jr.

Hubert E. Tucker, Jr., resident of Marion, passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2023.  He was born in Bridgeport, Ohio, on July 6, 1931, to Hubert E. and Leona A. Tucker, Sr. He graduated from Bridgeport High School, where he was active in sports, music, and other school activities.  He is in the school’s alumni Hall of Fame.

After moving to Indiana and military service, Hubert continued his education by receiving BS and MBA degrees.  He joined Bell Packaging in 1959, retiring in 1993 as Treasurer, as well as Finance and Assistant Secretary.

Hubert served with the combat engineers in the Korean Conflict, 1951-1953.  He was a S/SGT and received several medals, including the Korean Service Medal with Four Bronze Service Stars and a medal issued by the government of South Korea.

On July 22, 1956, Hubert married Imogene Sontchi of Wawaka, Indiana.  She passed away on March 30, 2018.  They were married for 62 years.

Hubert served on the boards of United Way, Senior Center, and Meals on Wheels, and he was also a counselor for SCORE, advisor for COE programs at Marion and Mississinewa schools, and the Easter Pageant choir.  He received the community service award and was profiled by Who’s Who in Business.

He was a 32nd Degree Mason, belonging to Fairmount Lodge 635 F&AM and the Scottish Rite Valley of Fort Wayne, as well as Fairmount Post 313 The American Legion.

Hubert was an avid and active tennis player here and in Florida, where he and Imogene spent their winters after retirement.  He was also a very active church member, serving various appointments throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and his brothers, John, Thomas, and James.

He is survived by his sons, Michael (Deanna) Tucker and Robert (Barbara) Tucker; grandchildren, Taran Bauer, Candace Tucker, Jordan Tucker, Josh Tucker, and Brandi (Chadd) Canode; 11 great-grandchildren; niece, Jaime Queenin; and nephews, Joseph Sontchi and Chris Sontchi.

The family will have a private visitation and graveside service.
