Hattie M. (Bumgardner) Hulse

Hattie M. (Bumgardner) Hulse, 95, Marion, passed away at 4:20 pm on Friday, July 14, 2023, at Rolling Meadows Health & Rehabilitation Center in LaFontaine. She was born in Ringo Mills, Kentucky, on Thursday, October 27, 1927, to Marion and Tona (Pierce) Bumgardner.  

Hattie graduated from Marion High School and worked at Foster-Forbes for 38 years until her retirement.  In 1974, she married Allie Hulse, and he preceded her in death on May 29, 1995.

Hattie loved working with veterans, AMVETS, and American Legion.  She was a life member of AMVETS Post 5 Auxiliary and VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and she was the AMVETS Auxiliary President 13-14 times. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Women’s Gas City Moose.  Hattie enjoyed baking for the bake sales and was known as the “pie lady”.

Survivors include her sister, Ada Love of Kankakee, IL; step-children, Arnold Hulse, Renee (Charles) Piper, and Michael (Traci) Hulse; and nephews and nieces, John (Robin) Bumgardner of Palmer, AK, Tony (Donna) Bumgardner of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Mark Bumgardner of Granite Falls, Washington State, Jade (James) Lowe of Jacksonville, FL, Melissa Cummings of Anchorage, AK, Norma (Steve) Smith of Marion, Mike (Jennifer) Love of Kankakee, IL, and Pat (Kimmie) Love of Fennville, MI.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; step-son, Terry Hulse; and brother, Marion A. Bumgardner.

The family will receive visitors from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Hattie’s life will begin at 12:00 noon with Pastor Joel Gearhart officiating.  Burial will take place at Gardens of Memory in Marion.
