Steven L. Banks

Steve passed away peacefully on July 13, 2023, in Stuart, Florida.  He is survived by his wife, Paula; children, Brad (Jenny) Banks and Benji (Megan) Banks, both of Fishers, Indiana; step-children, Holly Dowling, Brad (Gwen) Belcher, and Brock (Jacky) Belcher, all from Florida; grandchildren, Olivia Bush, Savanna Dowling, Bridgett Belcher, Ty Dowling, Brooke Belcher, Trevor Banks, Noah Banks, Brady Banks, Sydney Banks, and Riley Banks.  Steve was preceded in death by his wife, Becky Banks; parents, Bob (Ann) Banks; daughter, Natalie Jo Banks; and brother, Michael Banks.  

Steve was a beloved son, father, grandfather, husband, and friend to many.  He was a member of Jonesboro Friends Church.  Steve was a graduate of Mississinewa High School and first-generation college graduate from Ball State University.  Shortly after graduating college, Steve began his impressive career in the banking industry in Marion, Indiana, assisting thousands of people achieve their “American Dream”.  Steve is the Past President, C.E.O., and Chairman of the Board of Fidelity Federal Savings Bank of Marion; Past President, C.E.O., and Vice Chairman of the Board of First Federal Savings Bank of Marion; and Senior Vice President and Board Member of Mutual Bank of Muncie, Indiana.

Steve was a dedicated public servant to the Marion community and set a legacy of volunteerism as an example for his family to follow.  He served as Past President of Board of Directors of Grant County Economic Growth Council, Past Board Member of Business Education Partnership, Past Board Member of Grant County Community Foundation, Past Officer and Board Member of Grant Blackford Developmental Center, Past Member of Marion Area Chamber of Commerce, Past Board Member of Main Street Marion, Past Board Member of Junior Achievement of Grant County and East Central Indiana, Past Board Member of the Indiana League of Savings Institutions, Past Member of the Grant County Home Builders Association, Past Member of the Audit Committee of the United Way of Grant County, Past Affiliate Member of Marion Board of Realtors, Past Member of the Indiana Wesleyan Citizens Advisory Board, Past Member of Marion Elks Lodge and Country Club, Meshingomesia Country Club, Marion Aero Club, Marion Mecca Club, Founding Director of Marion Youth Soccer Club, Past Board Member and Coach of Marion Boys and Girls Club, Past Member and Coach of Marion Youth Baseball, Past Coach at Marion Police Athletic League, and Past Basketball Coach in Indiana Amateur Athletic Union “AAU”.  Steve’s volunteer activity is a remarkable legacy, and he touched the lives of hundreds of kids in his time coaching youth athletics.  The example he set for all those who were lucky to have met him was a great example of a servant leader always looking for a way to make his community better.

The family will receive visitors from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 28, 2023, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.  Steve’s memorial service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Reverend David Phillips (Wabash Friends Church).  

Following the memorial service, a Celebration of Life will be held at Meshingomesia Tomahawk Club, 2225 N. Lagro Rd.  A private partial burial of his remains will be held at a later date at Grant Memorial Park cemetery.
