Harvey L. Barnes Sr.

Harvey L. Barnes Sr., 80, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, at his Fairmount residence.

Harvey was born in Summitville, Indiana on November 19, 1937, son of the late Lawrence L. and Chelsa Mae (Montgomery) Barnes.  Harvey began his life as a farmer’s son and enjoyed showing cattle with his family.  He married Peggy Sue Burleson on February 15, 1976. She preceded him in death on February 8, 2010.   Harvey retired from General Motors Metal Fabrication in Marion, Indiana, on April 4, 2004, after 34 years, where he was a hi-lift driver and member of the CPC Sympathy Club, as well as vice president of the Retirees Local 977.  He enjoyed talking on the CB Radio where he was known as “Hot Shot”. His love and charity will be sorely missed.  Harvey was always there when someone was in need.  He enjoyed many things; family, 4-H, sports, coaching, Round Robbins Bingo, Meals on Wheels, and the GM Retirees Club; but most of all, he just loved to help others.  Harvey was a giver, not a taker.  He was a founding member and president of Round Robins and enjoyed volunteering with Helping Hands and the Fairmount Civil Defense.  Harvey was a member of Little Ridge Friends and attended Fairmount Baptist Church.

Harvey is survived by three sons; Harvey L. Barnes Jr. Fairmount, Dale (Tammy) Barnes, Argos, IN, and Kenneth (Brandy) Barnes, Woodlawn, TN; brother, Larry (Kathy) Barnes, Fairmount; niece, Beth Anne Barnes, Fishers; nephew, Brady (Samantha) Barnes, Alexandria; special friend, Phyllis Martin, Pt. Isabel; three grandchildren; Zachary Barnes, Liberty, IN, Holden Barnes, US Navy, Ft. Worth, TX, and Ashlie Steffen; and two great-nieces Chelsta, Callee, and Cambree Barnes; as well as several and friends.   Harvey leaves a gigantic hole in his family and community that cannot be replaced.  We love you and hope you rest in peace.  You never slowed down to rest on earth.

Arrangements are being handled by the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 S. Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana, where visitation will be on Thursday, November 15, 4-8 PM and 1 hour prior to the service on Friday.  Funeral service is Friday, November 16, at 11 AM, with Dr. Jerry DeHart officiating.  Burial will follow at Vinson Cemetery, Summitville, Indiana.

Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses.
