George R. “Johnny” Fernung

George R. “Johnny” Fernung, 84, passed away on Sunday, November 11, 2018, in Marion, Indiana. Johnny was born on January 18, 1934, in Madison County, Indiana, to the late William R. Fernung and the late Gertrude (Townsend) Fernung. He was a 1952 graduate of Summitville High School and served his country in the Army for a short time. He farmed for Greenway & Fernung Farms for many of years. He worked at General Motors as a tool & die maker for over 30 years and had flea market stands throughout the community for 20 years under “John’s Odds and Ends”. For several years, he sold corn out of the back of his truck in the Fisher Body parking lot. People would refer to him as a “wheeler and dealer”. Johnny enjoyed camping in his trailer and fishing at Lake Karl. He liked target shooting. Johnny was a Christian and enjoyed attending Grace Community Church and Park Lynn Church of The Nazarene.

Johnny is survived by his daughters, Vicki Wehrhahn, Ohio and Amy (Vince) Winston, GA; sons, John (Teresa) Fernung, Marion, IN and Richard Fernung, Lake Havasu City, AZ; brother, Mike Fernung, Elwood, IN; 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, ex-wife Patricia A. Cox.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Nanette Fernung, ex-wives, Joanne Baker, Frieda G. Taylor (McGlothen), Patricia A. Cragun,

Arrangements have been entrusted to College Park Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 4601 S. Western Ave. Marion, Indiana, where there will be a visitation held on Wednesday, November 14, 2018, from 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 15, 2018, at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be held directly after the funeral service at Knox Chapel Cemetery, Fairmount, Indiana 46928.
