Harold Gene Chaplin, Sr., 81, of rural Wabash, Indiana, died at 11:16 am, Monday, October 9, 2023, at his son’s home in Wabash. He was born on July 16, 1942, in Wabash, to Loyal M. and Catherine (Eldridge) Chaplin.
Harold was a construction worker, worked for Junior Tyson, and also worked at the saw mill several years. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge and the American Legion, both of Wabash, and was a former member of the Wabash Moose Lodge. Harold enjoyed being outdoors, woodworking, auto racing, demo derbies, and boxing.
He is survived by his son, Harold (Faith) Chaplin, Jr. of Wabash; three grandchildren, Zackary “Zack” Chaplin, Allie Chaplin, and Conner Johnson, all of Wabash, Indiana, four great grandchildren, Stevie Chaplin, Willow Chaplin, Zoey Chaplin, and Jackson Brubaker; brother, Gerald Dean “Butch” Chaplin of Wabash; and sister, Loretta Ventura of Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, James, John, Joe, George, Richard, Loyal Jr., and Lawrence Chaplin, and four sisters, Betty Wade, Mildred Bolinger, Patricia Music, and Maria Patterson.
Funeral services will be 6:00 pm, Friday, October 13, 2023, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with Pete Higginbotham officiating. Friends may call 4-6 pm Friday, at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is to the family for expenses.
