Freeda M. Johnson

Freeda M. Johnson, 96, of Warren, IN, formerly of Marion, IN, passed away at 8:05 PM on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at Heritage Pointe in Warren, IN.  She was born on Thursday, August 17, 1922, in Washington Twp. Grant Co., IN, the only daughter of the late Daniel & Blanche Leach.  She graduated from Van Buren High School in 1940.

 

Freeda attended Marion Business College and worked as a secretary at Osborn Paper Company during WWII.  She married Walter “Bud” Johnson on Saturday, March 13, 1943 in Marion, IN, while Bud was on a three-day leave from the Army. They were married over 60 years at the time of Bud’s death in 2004.

 

While most of Freeda’s life was spent as a housewife and devoted mother, she also enjoyed volunteering as a Boy Scout Den Mother and delivering Meals on Wheels. In her later years she moved to Heritage Pointe in Warren.

 

Freeda is survived by two sons Dan E. (Teri) Johnson, Telico Plains, TN, Gregory A. Johnson, Roanoke, IN, one granddaughter – Jennifer (Jim) Richey, Ft. Wayne, IN, great grandchildren – Kiersten Richey, and Austin Richey, both of Ft. Wayne, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers Kenneth and Vernon Leach.

 

Family and friends may gather to share and remember at Glancy – H. Brown & Son Funeral Home 203 N Matilda St. Warren on Monday, February 11, 2019 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM and from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Glancy – H. Brown & Son Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 12, 2019; one hour before the funeral service.

 

A service to celebrate Freeda’s life will be at Glancy – H. Brown & Son Funeral Home at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 with Rev. Lloyd Hall officiating.  Burial will follow in the Masonic Cemetery in Van Buren, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
