Peter Scott Rhetts

Peter was not a fan of long, flowery obituaries. Therefore, we will honor his wishes for the short version of Peter’s full and well-lived life.

Peter Scott Rhetts passed away on February 5, 2019, at his home in Marion, Indiana, at the age of 66. Peter was born in Marion, on June 10, 1952, to George and Rosemary (York) Rhetts. He was a lifelong resident of Grant County.

A 1970 graduate of Marion High School, Peter attended Indiana University where he completed his BA in 1974 and his Master’s in Public Affairs in 1975. Peter continued his education at IUPUI where he earned his Law Degree in 1982.

During the next ten years, Peter practiced law in Fairmont, Indiana. He then answered God’s call and left his private law practice to join the World Gospel Mission where he served for 15 years. Peter taught in the adult education program at IWU and joined the faculty as a business professor in 2008. Peter retired from teaching in February 2018. Peter loved his students and was humbled as he witnessed them grow in knowledge and their faith in the Lord.

While he enjoyed golf, photography, and riding his bike, music was his passion. At the age of sixteen, Peter began playing keyboard with several bands both locally and nationally. He came off the road in 1981, but continued to share his love of music playing in churches and with the Wingfield Crusades.
