Evelyn Rosamond Bridegroom

Evelyn Rosamond Bridegroom, 95, of Wabash, Indiana, died at 6:35 pm, Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at Wellbrooke of Wabash.  She was born on June 26, 1928, in Wabash, to Kenneth “Pete” and Miriam “Marie” (Davis) Lawson.

Evelyn was a 1946 graduate of Somerset High School. She married Marland “Jim” Bridegroom at her parent’s rural country home in Wabash, on December 14, 1951; he died February 6, 2016. Early in life she helped on the family farm. After high school she worked at a hat store in downtown Wabash and worked at Wabash Magnetics. She and her husband Jim farmed, and owned and operated Bridegroom’s Grocery and Garage in Treaty for 13 years. Evelyn was a member of the Woodlawn United Methodist Church in Somerset and the Hoosier Homemakers Home Extension Club. She enjoyed dancing, listening to music, sewing, counted cross-stitch, knitting, crocheting, and quilting. She made every grandchild an afghan for their high school graduation. She and Jim wintered in Venice, Florida for 24 years. The past eight and a half years, she lived at Wellbrooke, where she enjoyed activities, such as dominos, bingo, and crafts.  

She is survived by three children, Rosa (Dean) Sparling of Wabash, Rita (Jan) Wade of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Rick (Della Conley) Bridegroom of Warsaw, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Angela (David) Christopher of Peru, Indiana, Matthew (Dara) Sparling of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Eric (Alison) Wade and Ryan (Kristen) Wade, both of Tulsa, Larissa (Matt) Krafft of Jenks, Oklahoma, Nathan (Jessica) Bridegroom of South Whitley, Indiana, and Rachael (Ben) Hogan of Loogootee, Indiana; and 11 great grandchildren, Jade and Clay Christopher, Eve and Isaac Sparling, Sebastian Wiser, Soleil Wade, Paxton, Felicity, Maddox, and Rowan Krafft, and Juliana Bridegroom; brother-in-law Ronald (Barbara) Bridegroom of Columbia City, Indiana, and sister-in-law Dottie Lawson of Wabash.  She was also preceded in death by her parents, brother, Marvin Lawson, and her sisters, Joan Dunphy and Velma Templin.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Sunday, February 11, 2024, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with David Phillips officiating. Burial will be in LaFontaine I.O.O.F. Cemetery.  Friends may call 12:30-2:00 pm Sunday, at the funeral home.
