Darrell D. Jones

Darrell D. Jones, 97, Gas City, Indiana, met his Lord and Savior on February 27, 2024. He was born in Marion, Indiana, on August 13, 1926, to Claude Jones and Martelle (Speece) Jones-Collins.  He married Rosemary Mellendorf on June 5, 1949, and they shared 64 years together before she preceded him in death. He was a devoted and selfless husband and father.

Darrell graduated from Marion High School In 1944.  He was gifted at working with his hands, especially as a skilled tradesman in construction, auto mechanic, and auto body. In his early years, he was a stock car racer.

He lived in the upper peninsula of Michigan for many years before moving back to Indiana.  Darrell loved his time in Michigan and would always say it was God’s country. He and Rosemary spent many winters in Florida with his two daughters.

He was a wonderful witness for the Lord to all, to the very end.  He was incredibly knowledgeable of the Bible because of his diligent, daily study of the Word.  He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy and served in the church for many years.

Darrell is survived by his children, Christy (Ed/Buddy) Williamson, Sandy (Steve) Miller, David (Jane) Jones, Shawn (Jeff) Scalf; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and bonus children, Sheila, Susie, and Rex, who called him “Dad 2.0”.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary Jones; parents, Claude (Agnes) Jones and Martelle (Marion) Collins; and brother, Donald Jones.

The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.
