Coy O. Cobb, Sr., 93, Marion, died in Wesleyan Healthcare at 7:15 a.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2018. He was born in Marion on March 28, 1925, to the late Henry and Edith (Pettiford) Cobb. On May 16, 1971, he married Joan E. Nicholson, and she survives.
Coy was a U.S. Army Veteran and had served as a cook with the 3717th Quartermaster Truck Company in the American theatre of operations. Coy achieved the rank of Private First Class and was awarded the American Theatre Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal. After his military service, Coy returned home to serve as a cook for many Marion establishments, most notably the Meshingomesia Country Club where he worked for several years.
Coy was a member of The House of Worship for All People, American Legion Post #95, DAV Chapter 15, NOTR, the Royal Colony, AFGE, and the Yellow Creek Conservation Club. In his free time, Coy enjoyed fishing at his Yellow Creek lake house, refinishing furniture, and woodworking. He loved to cook for his family and friends, and will be remembered for his first class barbeque ribs and prime rib. He will also be remembered as a friendly, jovial, and outgoing man who will be missed by all who were blessed to have him in their life.
In addition to his loving wife, those left to cherish Coy’s memory include his children, Coy (Beth) Cobb, Jr., Lawrenceburg, Cindy Cobb, Indianapolis, Jimm (Ernest Ward) Cobb, Chicago, Illinois, Edward (Carol) Trice, Fairmount, June (Dr. Robert) Holt, Indianapolis, Peggy (Mike) Mullin, Mountain Home, Arkansas, and Jack (Won Hui) Trice, Lafayette; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Nettie Barnett, Marion; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Henry Cobb; brothers, George Cobb and Calvin Cobb; and sisters, Martha Dobbins, Amy Marjorie Stewart, Liz Cobb Murrell, and Ruth Ann Barlow.
Visitation is from 12 to 2 p.m. with Coy’s homegoing service beginning at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at House of Worship for All People, 1824 S. Branson St., Marion, IN. Burial will follow at Grant Memorial Park.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Needham Storey Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
