City of Peru Restricting Access to City Hall and suspending Parks and Golf Programs

This from the City of Peru Mayor’s Office: Peru, Indiana -The City of Peru is taking measures to keep city employees and the community safe by restricting access to City Hall and suspending all City of Peru Parks and Golf programs, as well as the Civic Center.

Public health and safety are our top priority, and measures must be taken to curb the spread of COVID -19.

In accordance with recommendations made by the Governor’s office and the Center for Disease Control, the City of Peru has put the following procedures in place effective immediately and remaining in effect until re-evaluated to determine the risk factor:

-The City Of Peru is restricting access to all City buildings, but each City department will remain open and will be able to address questions or concerns. City Hall will be closed to public access, but workers are available for essential business via phone or e-mail.

-Building permits can be accessed online. Contractor registration can be done via phone or online.

-All City-provided utilities such as lights, water, sewage, trash pick up, and street maintenance will continue to be provided for the safety of our citizens.

-The City Of Peru police and fire departments will continue to operate as usual to provide for the safety needs of our community.

This situation we face is like no other, however we will work together to conquer all the obstacles in our path. I have been in contact with our local pharmacies. If needed, Walgreens has free delivery for prescriptions if you email or text them. CVS is limited, and Kroger has no delivery. All three stated anyone can come in and pick up prescriptions for individuals, but they will need to know the address and date of birth of the individual they are picking up the medicine for.

The reason the Governor and the CDC are asking everyone to limit contact with other individuals (social distancing) is so this disease will not have a volcano effect and eventually reach a plateau. Remember, wash your hands more often and try to reduce your contact with other people. PLEASE practice social distancing and stay home! I will try to keep you informed as changes come about, so please don’t panic and we will get through this together. – Peru Mayor Miles Hewitt
